Defense Innovation Unit Experimental
Sept. 14, 2017 - "Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced that the Department of Defense will establish a new Defense Innovation Unit Experimental, or DIUx, presence in Austin, Texas. Like the existing DIUx offices in Silicon Valley and Boston, the team in Austin will link the department with America's leading innovators, so they can help address our national security challenges and ensure America's warfighters remain on the cutting edge of technology."
The U.S. Department of Defense relies on innovation to maintain our nation’s ability to deter, and if need be, prevail in conflict.
With outposts in the heart of Silicon Valley and Boston, Defense Innovation Unit Experimental (DIUx) serves as a bridge between those in the U.S. military executing on some of our nation’s toughest security challenges and companies operating at the cutting edge of technology.
As it implies, DIUx is just that: an “experiment.”
We continuously iterate on how best to identify, contract, and prototype novel innovations through sources traditionally not available to the Department of Defense, with the ultimate goal of accelerating technology into the hands of the men and women in uniform.
"Through our rapid contracting tool, the Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO), DIUx has pioneered a way to move at the speed of business, completing deals with technology firms in as little as 31 days. DIUx has now published a CSO “how-to” guide so organizations across DoD can establish their own CSOs."
Will the DIUx: Innovation Unit Survive President elect Trump?
